Beth’s Deluxe Flowers guide on Wedding Flowers by Season
Welcome back to Beth’s Deluxe Flowers’ blog.
Nothing can quite equal the charm and grace that flowers bring to a wedding.
As a Luxury Floral Designer in Prague, I recommend the use of seasonal flowers to decrease costs and maximize the beauty that each season can offer. The choice of flowers can affect the way the décor and the wedding arrangements look so it is better to choose wisely.
There are some flowers which bloom all through the year like Anthuriums, Gerbera Daisy, Bourvardia, Asiatic Lily and Aster. These are easily available and are a good option for wedding décor whatever the season is.
Floral designs for spring weddings should incorporate the freshness and innocence of this season. It is important to remember that spring comes at different times in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Spring in the North Hemisphere happens between March to May and spring in the Southern Hemisphere happens between September to November. The prettiest of flowers bloom in spring and some of them are Bird of Paradise, Pussy Pillow, Zinnia, Anemone, Peony, Hollyhock, Gardenia, Tulip, Corn Flower, Lilac, Cherry Blossom, Casa Blanca, Roses and Gloriosa Lily.
Summer weddings are all about vibrancy and warmth. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere happens during June to August while summer in the Southern Hemisphere happens between December to February. Bright summer seasonal flowers which really light up the wedding scene are Calla Lily, Didiscus, Iris, Carnation, Cosmos, Kangaroo Paw, Gladiolus, Foxglove, Dianthus, Gardenia, Baby Breath, Hydrangea and Campanula.
Summer weddings are often held open air in gardens and beautiful lawns so flowers that complement natural settings should be chosen. Country side weddings are very popular in summer.
Autumn is the harvesting season and if your wedding happens in autumn then choose flowers that denote the fertile abundance of the earth. With autumn being September, October and November in the northern hemisphere, and March, April and May in the southern hemisphere. Best autumn blooms are Baby’s Breath, Alstroemeria, China Berry, Queen Ann’s Lace, Gerbera Daisy, Cockscomb, Rowan Berry, Zinnia, Freesia, Juniper, Star of Bethlehem, Hypericum, Yarrow, Pepper Berry and Orchids. I advice the use of gorgeous red and orange autumn leaves for complementing the wedding decor.
Winter happens during December to February in the Northern Hemisphere while the Southern Hemisphere winter happens between June to August. Winter flowers are Carnations, Evergreens, Statice, Cyclamen, Helleborus, Asiatic Lily, Ginger, Holly Berry, Pansy, Alstroemeria, Daisy and Amaryllis.
Hope this information help you select the perfect floral combination for your wedding!
